Your instructor(s) are diligently preparing for your inevitable demise this weekend. Registration closes at midnight tonight.
Two cans of Monster zero ultra energy drink
Looks like we’re going to get some rain on Saturday! Thank goodness!
Many of you already know this, but don’t be late. If your intended DNS is not brought to the instructor(s) attention, here’s what happens:
For every five minutes you are late (not at the start point with your gear laid out according to the rules), the rest of the team will do 38 burpees.
This will continue to occur every 5 minutes until you arrive or the team has done 150 burpees.
If the team has reached 150 burpees, you are considered a DNF and will not be eligible to get your patch at the end.
So plan ahead. Plan for getting a flat tire, traffic jams, your carpool buddies being late, filling up the tank, taking time for breakfast, dealing with nervous explosive diarrhea, etc. Have. A. Plan. The purpose of this event is to get you into the right mindset into some events that will DNF you because you are literally single-digits away from a cutoff or having a minor infraction to the rules. If you let the instructor(s) know that you’re going to be late, everybody else is still going to be doing burpees until you arrive anyways. So to fix that…. don’t be late.
(and if you’re early you can do challenge #8 with everyone!)
NEW event start time is 0642
NEW mandatory gear item:
Blindfold (doesn’t have to be fancy/expensive. Just something to obscure vision)
Challenge #8 will be the optional bonus challenge. This will take place at 0629 at the area specified in the purple area on the map. If you aren’t there by 0629 you cannot do the challenge. If you intend on doing the challenge, you better have all your gear ready to go to immediately be ready for event start.
The green area is where you are to be lined up and ready to go by 0642 for admin phase. You will be facing the surf with your gear laid out according to the diagram below. This diagram below is from the perspective of your instructor(s) that will be facing you. The team will be ordered from oldest to youngest, with the oldest member being at the northernmost part of the line. Since you unlocked some weight perks, it’ll help to have a 5lb segment of your weight separate in case you’re the lucky one who gets to be relieved of the weight.
Some other very important things to understand:
Yes, your pack will get wet. It’s advised to have a waterproof bag to protect things you need protected.
The beach is windy. We suggest having your mandatory gear in your bucket to avoid things from blowing away.
Update: Mandatory team gear has to be in a pile in front of the line of people.
The red area on the map is where you can use the bathroom and refill water, but keep in mind that it may not be open in the morning. There may be additional bathroom access during laps 3 and 4 if we’re lucky.
Laps 1-4 may begin/end in any of the blue areas, so park accordingly.
You will be given a 10 minute break after each lap completion. 20 minute break after lap 2.
Upon lap completion you will be told which of those three blue areas you are to be lined up in (in the same age order as event start) to start the next lap.
Once you’re all lined up accordingly with your rucks on, the timer stops.
If you’re ready before the 10 minute timer ends, you can bank that remaining time for a future lap break. If you take more time, you lose future time.
You’re going to be getting food/hydration/whatever from your car in an active parking lot. Look for cars before frantically trying to sprint to the start location. Don’t be dumb and get ran over because you wanted to save 3 seconds on your time.
Here it is! The team accumulated an impressive 91 points and unlocked some serious perks for their event. Now they rest up for Saturday!
The team must submit their talent unlocks prior to April 23rd at 4:20pm. Any remaining points will be evenly distributed among the team with any odd remaining points going towards those who registered for the event first.
Better start tapering..
First, some clarifications and amendments to some current items:
FIVE safety pins
5gal buckets (are allowed to have a lid)
New item:
Four laminated index cards that depict your biggest goal on it
It’s everybody’s favorite challenge… the scavenger hunt! To those not initiated, this challenge involves submitting a video of you doing 20 burpees in front of various things you may happen to come by during your day. This is a big chance to unlock some perks and earn some serious points for your event! Just so one person doesn’t carry the entire team, each participant may only submit up to 3 submissions. No, you cannot submit one thing multiple times, once it’s done it cannot be done by somebody else. This T3’s scavenger hunt will involve doing 20 burpees in front of the following objects:
A cat (must be in the frame the entire time)
A dog (must be in the frame the entire time)
A trailhead
A dumpster with visible trash
A statue over 4 feet tall
A brick building
A blue pontiac
A movie with Steve Buscemi in it running in the background
A bridge
A building that’s over 10 stories tall
A fire
A buccees
(The list will be updated once a confirmed submission is done so you guys know which ones are still available)
Please for the love of god do not trespass or create a dangerous situation for you or anybody else to do these challenges. Photos of the scavenger hunt object do not count either.. Now on to the fun part… the rewards! Rewards for this challenge will be given based on the number of things on the list that were successfully found and submitted, so you guys really have to work together on this one! On to the rewards:
✅ 1 submission: I like your post. Maybe I respond with a picture of one of my cats or something. I might even show you a picture of my cat during the T3!
✅ 5 submissions: 10 points given to the team.
✅ 7 submissions: 1 point to all registered participants (hint: Get all those last-minute registrants to get in ASAP)
✅ 9 submissions: The team chooses the trivia subject from our three previous favorites: The Soviet Union, The 2000s, and World War 1 (they chose the 2000s)
✅ All items: A random perk tier is brought to the next level of ease. (fixed dice upgraded)
The gear list has been updated with more items! Horray! So far, individuals are required to bring the following items:
Any medical allergies or information an EMT would need to know laminated on an index card
Four safety pins
5gal bucket
Headlamp
Six sided dice
A coin with your birthyear on it
A fork, spork or spoon
Twelve and/or eight-sided dice
Much like previous T3s, there is a team gear list as well. Here are the items for the team gear list so far:
Football, inflated to legal pressure ranges according to NFL rules
Basketball, inflated to legal pressure ranges according to NBA rules
Soccerball, inflated to legal pressure ranges according to FIFA rules
50lbs wreckbag or 40lbs medicine ball per 4 people (filled or unfilled)
A laminated picture of John Stamos with every participant’s autograph on the back
As always, this list can expand or contract. Do not try to outsmart the list (ex. bringing a miniature size ball, etc.). In many scenarios it is to your benefit to bring the most standardized item (remember trying to play basketball with a semi-deflated soccerball?) If you’re missing an item, your cadre may or may not have one for you that you can “purchase”.
Get your challenge submissions done. Or don’t.
Study the nations marked in red. Learn to be able to say what they are when presented a map.
Each person will be able to answer a maximum of 9 nations when it’s time to get quizzed during the T3. Considering there’s currently 9 people registered for this event, this is a generous amount and you can have a few people carry the team in this.
There has only been two successful geography challenges done in the 11 year history of the T3. Don’t screw this one up.
This next challenge will be a good to the whole community! Last year our team took place in the Rubbish Ruck, where we quite simply donned a rucksack with 20% bodyweight and went out-n-back and picked up trash. Challenge #6 can be done individually or as a group and you will do just that - ruck and pick up trash! Here are the rules:
Route must be at least 2 miles
Pack must have 20% bodyweight
Show some kind of proof (video, picture of your gathered trash, etc.)
That’s it! We recommend you bring gloves and one of those grabby stick things and be very careful handling glass. If you complete the challenge you earn 1 point in addition to obtaining a special Rubbish Ruck patch when you show up to the T3! Horray for extra patches, am I right? That’s not all, if more than 5 registered contenders complete this challenge, the team will get one perk tier unlocked at random!
As promised, here are three items from the mandatory gear list that are revealed as a result of three people doing a 90 second dead hang challenge:
Four safety pins
Glowsticks - 1 green and 1 red
A coin with your birthyear on it
Let’s see how quick you are! Challenge #5 will be simple but fun! Your challenge video submission shall include the following:
Do 5x:
Five pushups
Five sit-ups
Five burpees
Five jump squats
You can do them in any order you like. Completing this challenge will score you one easy point! With the talent points now being revealed, points have become much more sought after…
This is the point in the game where more people registering equals more points for the team to unlock, so be sure to tag your friends and get this party started!
The team has met the requirements of challenge #4 to unveil the talent points! As promised, here are the eight different talent trees that the team may redeem points to unlock. So far the team has earned 46 points!
The Team Regiment tent is located in the festival area at Savage Race. On the ground in that tent area is both a leaf-banner and the team flag. Run with either one of those for the duration of the full Savage Race (you can share it with others, 1mi at a time) and you’ll earn 3 points.
It’ll help if you have proof of this feat. Don’t break them either.
It’s time for another hold-position challenge! This particular hold has the strange ability to warp time into a slow, agonizing crawl for some reason…
Oh yeah, it’s planks. This one has the potential to earn you some serious points! Here’s the reward tiers:
1 minute - 1 point
2 minutes- 1 additional point
3.5 minutes - 1 additional point
4 minutes + - If three people can make it this far, the entire talent point reward system is revealed
Additional rules:
You may use either of the two standard plank positions (hands on the ground or the elbows).
Form must be correct!
Once you start the timer you cannot switch positions.
During your planks, give a shout-out to a friend you’d like to see register for the T3! Tag them!
Points will be spent on a tiered system at this T3! The team defaults at hardmode for everything and gets to unlock their way up to either normal or easy mode on various metrics that will be released at a later time. Here’s a sneak peak at one of those tiers:
So in this example you’d have an opportunity to better your luck when it comes to dicerolling against the instructor(s). There have been many situations in past T3s where a lot of funishment hinged on a single diceroll, so a perk like this could help! Other perks will eventually get revealed as challenges are completed and as more people register, so stay tuned!
Welcome to challenge #3! This one is going to be a test of your grip strength, for sure! There are different reward tiers to this challenge based off of your time spent doing a dead-hang. Submit a video of yourself doing a dead-hang and reap the rewards of your efforts:
30 seconds - I comment on your submission with a picture of one of my cats
45 seconds - 1 point
60 seconds - 1 additional point
90 seconds - If five people can get this long of a dead hang you will be given three items off the mandatory gear list early
No cheating. The video must show that your feet are off the ground and you aren’t aided by anything. No due date on this, either!
This challenge is incredibly simple and teaches you a little thing about scheduling, as there is a small window in which you are eligible to complete this challenge. As you can guess… You can only complete this challenge on Thursdays.
And the challenge is simple. Run a 10k on a Thursday. Submit proof (strava, etc.) through one of the three methods of challenge submissions given to you in your registration confirmation email and get to it! Finishing this challenge awards you two points!
Happy new year! The first challenge of a T3 is always a simple icebreaker. Instructions are outlined in the video. Have fun!
